Action plan development and implementation

Make real change towards equity, diversity, and inclusion in your organization.

Why create an equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan?

Establish organization-wide goals. Leverage shared objectives to help build a sense of belonging and purpose in your team.

Grow accountability and transparency. Increase the sense of responsibility among team members by sharing your action plan publicly.

Combine structural change with individual action. Address systemic inequities through organizational action such as policy change, and grow skills to support this structural change through complementary individual learning.

What does an action plan include?

Overall goals and specific objectives. Guide your efforts towards the actions most relevant for your organization by setting quantitative objectives and timelines.

Concrete and feasible action items. Build equity and inclusion by changing policies, standardizing procedures, increasing transparency, building professional development programs, and developing guidelines for inclusive meetings and events.

Evaluation plan and measures. Assess indicators regularly to determine if you’ve achieved an objective or if progress has stalled.

Data-driven justification for objectives and actions. Maximize the effectiveness of your initiatives by basing them on organizational data collected in your assessment and positive results demonstrated through research.

Implementation strategy. Get your team involved in putting your plan into action through internal communications, training, and enforcement of policy change.
